Joseph Shaw is one of those special kinds of men that you're lucky to meet once or twice in a lifetime. People call him "The Green Mile Man," due to his 6-foot-plus stature, dark skin and booming voice. Joe is a middle school world history teacher, a volleyball referee, a basketball coach, a widower, a child of the segregated South, a track coach, a late-night pool player, a mentor and the man around town that everyone knows. He can't walk down the block without shouts of, "Mr. Shaw! Hey, remember me?!" echoing from the mouths of former students, players or just someone who met this memorable man in passing. Joe's life is a prime example of the legacy one man can leave behind. He inspires others to realize that they are capable of making an impact in everything they do.
